Headboard in Blue 02 - Bleu nuit
Creative Ideas

A headboard created with paint

Seeing the light at the end of your construction-site tunnel often equals being at your wits' end. Don't give up now! The final task: the bedroom. Yet still, not an easy feat. Sure, the white wall behind your bed isn't ideal (you were dreaming of a cosy headboard), but your budget isn't unlimited either... Time to take out your paint roller, masking tape and creative cap. Whether in shades of blue or the colours of the rainbow, rounded shapes or rectangular, paint can work wonders without breaking the piggy bank. Here's a few of our favourites to inspire you. Sweet dreams!

White, blue, green, period

This bed frame created by interior designer Marion Alberge shakes up the timeless parquet-mouldings of the Haussmannian style just right. So that the happy inhabitants don't fall asleep from boredom with all-white, she played the colour block card with a Mediterranean touch: deep blue and forest green, with the white border and retro lamps further enhancing the already ultra-unique look. We can hear your thoughts already: painting a straight line sounds like a nightmare! Don't panic, check out our tutorial "How to create a graphic frame with paint". Add some masking tape and an undercoat of white paint to your shopping list: you'll discover everything you need to know to make sure nothing is out of line.

Retro style

Marn Deco has done it again. Not a project goes by that doesn't make us want to dig out our overalls and paintbrushes! While the two white wardrobes seamlessly blend into the decor, this bedroom takes on a high-end look with the double arch headboard. There are two options for achieving this perfect curve: use a pre-cut shape of the desired size as a base for the design, or jump straight into the deep end by drawing your arch directly onto the wall using a DIY compass. As for colour, the combination of Beige 01 - Beige rosé and Klein blue opens up a world of possibilities, so get creative we say!

Picture perfect

Daring to use colour is one thing, but four? Julia Rouzaud has us convinced. So before taking out your paint rollers, take a little inspiration from her: dive into colour charts, combine strong shades with soft ones. Don't hesitate to test out your colour combos on paper. Here, the founder of Good Moods media & style has surrounded the bed with squares painted with a mix of Argile, Maison Sarah Lavoine and Ressource paints. The warmth of pink and orange is matched by the purity of beige and pale green. The different levels of the shapes create new volumes in the room. A special shout out to the pale pink plinth that brings the finishing touch.

It's his signature: Nicolas Payet certainly loves colour. Good news, so do we! Take two wardrobes. Cover them in smooth matte lacquer fronts: one in Blue 04 - Ciel voilé, the other a vivid Klein blue (a little daring even for the Marn Deco agency!). Then get creative with a headboard that isn't too straight nor too round. The juxtaposition of the two blue hues creates the illusion that the room is bigger than it really is. The two small Zangra wall lamps add the finishing touch: we're getting hotel room vibes!

What's blue, white and in bed?

White is nice, but it's messy. Especially in bed, when you like to eat your pancakes there every Sunday morning. We know, we've been there! To avoid having to repaint your room every week, nothing does the job quite like a splash of colour. But not a big fan of the feature wall? Try using colour as a shape or curve. Here, our Blue 02 - Bleu nuit paint looks like as though its part of the bed. A drawer front in Beige 03 - Moka matte lacquer is simply fixed to the wall with a Tiptoe Bracket to become a bedside table. We think we'll sleep well tonight!

Two-tone

We'll tell you upfront: giving a new life to a white wall can 1. be done in a few hours 2. change the mood of your waking hours. In Amandine's bedroom, co-founder of Plum Living, all it took was one pot of Red 01 - Terra paint to create a half-arch that livens up her bedroom. She then accessorised it with a thin, almost tone-on-tone shelf to place her photo frames and decorative pieces. All that's left to do now is have sweet, sweet dreams.
