Playing with contrasts: five ideas for coloured pillars

Whether it’s because they’re too technical, or just too ‘much’, pillars tend to be forgotten. But what if we do the opposite here? When displayed in a bold, contrasting colour, pillars can really bring some personality to your kitchen space. From Jungle to Beige rosé, and from Olive to Argile, we have a colour for every occasion. Here’s a few of our favourite designs, ranging from electric and playful through to organic and retro.

Go green

Cubist lines, plywood facades and white worktop, this kitchen synthesizes the Scandinavian style in two modules. If we like it for its refined side, not impossible that monotony sets in over time. The trick? Add a good dose of color to wake up the whole. In a shade close to our Leaf, the large column cabinet is dressed in a frank green that stands out proudly. The result: a graphic and playful décor that frees itself from stereotypes and impresses us.

Double the flavour

Full-height pillars are without a doubt the perfect way for storing and organisation. Confused by how this works? Look a little closer: this storage piece, designed like a beautiful piece of furniture, really uses colour to its advantage. This is a great way to enhance their practicality while masking their overarching effect. Painted in a blue (similar to our Blue 04 - Ciel voilé), the lower modules form the base. Adding some contrast, but keeping some continuity between the lines, a green shade (similar to our Green 06 - Olive) brings harmony to the upper boxes and adds a bit of spice to this creation. Truly unforgettable.

Vintage (but not too vintage)

Walnut shades may be the first to spring to mind when we think of retro style, but at Plum Living, we love projects that reimagine the ‘norm’ when it comes to decor. This design by Wowowa is a perfect example. With wood as the base, the design team injects a boost of green onto the pillar and bench in the dining area. This colour adds a refreshing highlight to two spaces while creating unity. Now… over to you!

Colour block

It’s hard to get the balance right with open kitchen spaces. You feel like you’re either overdoing it, or not doing enough. So why not just take the plunge and add some colour? Here, on one side, the sink and kitchen appliances are integrated into a simple white module, while Svetlana Khabeeva has given centre stage to the full-height cabinet. The brick-look adds some real character to this piece, whilst complementing the terrazzo floor and the living room decor. An edgy touch (which goes perfectly with our Red 02 - Argile). Go and try it!
