Design advice: Kitchen

To start with, we recommend that you take a look at all our inspirations, practical guides and address books here. You'll find lots of practical advice for designing your kitchen.
Find out more specific tips for kitchens with dividers and kitchen islands below. 💡

Kitchen with dividers

To create a kitchen with dividers, like this one, you need to insert Plum Living finishing panels vertically between your Metod cabinets. You'll find all our technical advice in this article. We also recommend this tutorial for creating a headboard with dividers - the method is the same for a kitchen!

Kitchen island

To create a kitchen island and cover it with Plum fronts, we recommend you to opt for several Metod cabinets placed side by side. You have several options:
Option 1: Place cabinets next to each other, for example 3 cabinets of 60x80cm, and cover them with a 120 cm worktop, which will create a bar - you will then have to hide the back of the cabinets with a cover panel. Here is an example.
Option 2: You can also place cabinets on each side of the worktop (like two legs) and place the worktop on top to create a high table.
Option 3: Place 4 or 6 cabinets back to back to create a pure storage island. The sides should be covered with finishing panels.

For the back of your island, we recommend you to opt for several 62x80cm panels to be placed side by side. If you want to limit the delimitation between the finishing panels as much as possible, you can choose to cover this line with wood pulp and paint it in the colour of the fronts. Another option is to choose a raw wood board of the desired size and paint it. You can find our paint range here.

Finally, there are 2 ways to fix your panels:
Internal fixing with brackets (to do before adding the interior fittings)
1. Cut the isorel (back of the cabinet) in the lower corners of the cabinet.
2. Fix the brackets to the panel and the inside of the cabinet.
3. Add the interior fittings
Using the island fixing kit supplied by Ikea. It makes it easy to mount the cabinets back to back, or to attach a finishing panel to the back of the lower cabinets.
