To create an upward-opening door, called a horizontal door at Ikea, you need to use a drawer front (not a door), to which you will attach the Ikea Utrusta hinges (ref. 504.624.80). These hinges open upwards, like a chest, and are designed to be fixed on drawer front holes and not on door holes. This is also the case at Ikea.
