8 ideas to transform your wardrobe

It was the first thing you noticed when you visited: storage space. From there to calling it the wardrobe of your dreams is just one small step. Hastily placed against a wall, Pax units are often more functional than aesthetic… unless you dress them up! An open unit here, a floor-to-ceiling finishing panel there. Sometimes all it takes is a little boldness to radically transform the look of Ikea modules. Two-tone, full height, dotted with alcoves or fitted between two walls... you're in luck, as we're brimming with ideas to help you turn your wardrobe into your own personal playground. Here are eight examples to prove it!

Stretched to the ceiling

You might think they'd be bulky and imposing… and you'd be wrong! Stretching all the way to the ceiling to make the most of the available space, full-height wardrobes blend into the décor and give the illusion of a bespoke arrangement. The good news is that our Pax doors are now available in 40, 50, and 80 cm heights, allowing you to extend your wardrobe and adapt it to your dimensions. Simply cut down an Ikea unit to serve as a top box, and the job is done.

Nestled between two walls

When it comes to wardrobes, it's hard to find better value for money than Ikea. The only downside is that their dimensions don't always suit every interior. Don't let that hold you back! Cut and screwed from inside the carcass, finishing panels can fill the gap between the wardrobe and the walls, creating a seamless fit from floor to ceiling. Our fitters even apply an acrylic sealant to eliminate any remaining gaps.

Faded into space

Getting out the circular saw isn't really your thing… but that's no reason to give up on a bespoke look. Play the colour card! Applied to all the walls and ceiling, tone-on-tone paint matched to the cabinet fronts allows the dressing room to blend seamlessly into the décor. Feel free to repeat this trick with dark shades in poorly lit rooms, and lighter hues in sun-drenched bedrooms.

Two-tone

36: that's the number of inspirations featuring two-tone wardrobes on our Pinterest board. Forget the Metod cabinets we used to use to recreate them! Available in 40, 50, and 80 cm heights, our small Pax cabinet doors can be paired with their counterparts in 196, 186, and 156 cm heights respectively, to create 236 cm two-tone wardrobes. All that's left is to play with our samples to find the colour combination that speaks to you.

Punctuated with designer handles

Three smooth facades, an open unit and a filler panel cut to bridge the gap between the carcass and the ceiling. On paper, this wardrobe is as classic as they come. That is, until you notice the sculptural handles that give it a distinctive look. With their curves echoing the shelves of the open unit, they break up the lines and make the fitted furniture the centrepiece of this child's bedroom.

Punctuated by open drawers

Two-toned, dotted with shelves, and extended by a platform bed created with Metod cabinets… It only took one glance at this photo for this project to earn its place in the pantheon of our favourite creations. Designed with a 75cm Pax wardrobe dressed in our Olive fronts in 40cm and Ciel voilé in 186cm, it leans against an open unit that gives it rhythm and lightness. Special mention to the wall painted in the same shade, which elevates the whole look.

Framed with thick finishing panels

2.5 cm that radically transform the look of a wardrobe. Used here as a frame that highlights this full-height arrangement, our thick finishing panels reinforce the graphic effect of the Bar handles and lend a luxurious feel to the whole. Add well-thought-out details, such as the light switch nestled within the Pax unit, and you'll forget that an Ikea frame is hidden behind your wardrobe.

Extended by a desk

We had dreamed of a semi-open dressing room with an integrated desk for our Invalides project. No matter how many times we turned the question over, or tried to sweet-talk our colleagues in product development, nothing worked: our vision simply didn't exist in the right dimensions. No matter! We found the solution by mixing Pax and Metod units, and trimming our desktop by a few centimetres so we could slide it under the open unit and bring our vision to life.
