After weeks of deliberation, you’ve finally made a decision: your wardrobe will have Green 05 - Stone frame doors, with brass handles. Layout: check. 203 cm (no more, no less) - to fit two one-metre-wide Pax cabinet frames, rounded off by two finishing panels to give that premium look you’ve long searched for. The question remains: how to best use the inside of the wardrobe? Drawers or baskets? Tension rods or classic rails? Follow our guide and all will be revealed!
All you need to do is type ‘Komplement’ into the Ikea search bar and you’ll be convinced of the rest: you’ll never be short of storage unit options for Pax cabinet frames here! Whilst they are super practical, they start to add to your budget before too long. Make sure you know which ones you need before you buy.
The first measurement you need to take into account is height - 201 or 236cm depending on the cabinet frame - and the type of clothes you want to keep there.
For shirts and jackets, allow 90 cm between the rail and the bottom of your wardrobe. There's nothing stopping you stacking two on top of each other to maximise the space you have available. For coats and dresses, you should allow between 140 and 150 cm. Ergonomic Komplement trouser hangers can be placed 60 cm above a shelf.
Take the chance here to adjust your storage space to your size and everyday needs: reserve the highest shelves for the clothes you use the least, and keep the ones you wear the most within easy reach.
5 minutes and 24 seconds. That’s exactly how long it took you today to find that second sock rolled up in a ball at the back of your shelf, wedged in between two pairs of jeans and a shoebox. So much for making the 8:40am train…
Just like in the kitchen, drawers make it so much easier to access the bottom of each storage unit, whilst making the most of the space you have. We can guarantee that it will keep your nerves intact each time you open your wardrobe! Just be cautious of when and where you use them, keeping your budget in mind, along with where you place hinges (so as not to block the doors from opening).
An interesting alternative to drawers, and often the more reasonably priced option, baskets can be attached at any level inside your wardrobe. These are ideal for kids’ rooms too, as they are easy to handle for small hands! Storage + self-sufficiency… we say yes to all of the above!
You’ve tried it all. Moving your bed to face the other way, compromising the room layout, even trying to push the walls… But nothing works. Goodbye 58cm-deep wardrobe, hello 35cm-deep Pax modules. We promise you: Ikea offers interior fixtures to fit all cabinet frame sizes. Then there’s two options when it comes to wardrobes: you can opt for tension rods, or you may prefer to use classic curtain rails. Either way, you need to adjust the size of your hangers to be able to close the doors. Our tip: shop these in the children’s section - their size is perfect for shallow wardrobes, and perfectly suitable for small bodies.
We must admit: when we design a kitchen online, the automatic addition of Ikea lighting to our basket annoys us a little. But when it comes to your wardrobe, it’s best to think twice before declining, especially if your cabinet frame is 58cm deep and you’ve opted for shelves. When simply screwed under your shelves, the LED strips (NORRFLY for reference) light up automatically when your doors open, allowing you to see more clearly.
We dreamed about it, and Ikea did it! They now offer an online design tool, that allows you to plan your bedroom, based on the same principle as the kitchen planner. It's a practical way to experiment with interior design and control your budget.
