Creativity is the name of the game here. On one side, Tanja Demmerath, at the head of one of the most influential press agencies in Germany. On the other, Jules Villbrandt, a photographer and influencer who shares her keen eye on Instagram under the pseudonym @herz.und.blut. Give them carte blanche, and you get an off-the-beaten-path home tour in the heart of Berlin. Ready to take a look?
Just step through Tanja Demmerath's door to immerse yourself in her world. Dark ceilings and premium materials, each room adds to the theatrical allure of her 180m2 apartment located in the family-friendly Charlottenburg district. Unique and edgy, the founder of the Impulse agency has played with design and decoration codes to create an interior that reflects her personality.
Designed like a box, the entrance to the apartment sets the tone. Washed over the walls to the ceiling, wine-coloured paint creates an enveloping atmosphere and instantly draws attention to the light-filled living spaces, with the kitchen at the forefront. "The Ikea elements were already there when we arrived, but they were generic and uninteresting." Tanja decided to keep only the structure, and to base the new identity of the room on the veining of the stone countertop. The result is matte lacquer Plum Living Sable fronts, highlighted by teak handles made by a cabinetmaker.
Natural stone, solid wood, lacquer... It's hard to imagine that Ikea cabinets are hidden behind Tanja's kitchen! The illusion lies in the details. Look closer: nestled between the worktop and the facades, a scalloped shaped detail pokes out. This addition was created from the same wood as the handles and adds depth and personality to the whole, while echoing the floating shelves and interior shutters. The undermounted sink and brass mixer contribute to the high-end look, while the custom-made aged brass plinth plays with light and evolves throughout the day.
Nestled in the extension of the kitchen, the dining room only measures a few square meters. But that doesn't matter! Tanja has decided to make it a cosy space, inspired by Parisian bistros as evidenced by the rattan chairs and the marble table. The velvet bench, on the other hand, picks up the grape hues of the entrance it faces, to create a unity between the rooms.
3.5 meters of ceiling height, a balcony overlooking the city and an abundance of light: the living room invites contemplation. Tanja has made it a showcase for her favorite designers by dedicating her remaining white walls to better highlight them. There's no question of giving up color though. It is invited here on the ceiling, to visually bring it closer while giving the room a dramatic look.
Like a common thread, this theatrical dimension is found in the master bedroom. Placed in front of the window, the bed catches the light. The Montana-signed dressing table brings a touch of color and whimsy, while the closet hidden behind heavy purple velvet curtains recalls hotel rooms. Special mention to the luggage trolley straight out of a Wes Anderson film. Unexpected!
Long and narrow, Tanja's son's room presented multiple challenges: how to fit storage without encroaching on the play area? The founder of Impulse dealt with the room's constraints by placing a Pax module in the extension of the bed to make books and legos disappear. "The wallpaper installed above the bed served as a starting point for choosing the Plum Living facade colors." Declined in Linen and Night Blue, they create a graphic set simply highlighted by matte black Delta handles.
it's the Prussian stove that sets the tone. The Stone and Moka facades of the wardrobes and the brass handles pick up the shades already present in the room to blend in better. The walls, on the other hand, have been painted in a darker tone of our Moka, to better highlight the old doors and original mouldings that make up the charm of the apartment.
